Found Fruit

Your Connection to Bay Area Local Food and Sustainable Living

About Us

Found Fruit’s Mission

Sustainable living and eating local have become core to SF Bay Area culture and an essential part of our local philosophy.  Found Fruit seeks to bring people and communities together to share information about local food resources and sustainable living practices through social networking, media sharing, group activities, blogging and public forum.

Why is Found Fruit Important

People want to preserve the environment and live in healthy communities. Local food systems and sustainability anchor healthy communities.  Many groups and individuals in the Bay Area work towards strengthening these systems.  Found Fruit seeks to unite these groups and individuals in a central location to provide access and information to local resources.

About Us

Kim Di Giacomo and Michele Senitzer created the Found Fruit site as an outcome of their blog, foundfruit.blogspot.com.  Kim and Michele hope this site creates community and provides more interaction between individuals and local groups that preserve and enhance the Bay Area's natural resources.

Kim lives in Oakland, CA and loves to forage for wild edibles, go fishing, make homemade wine, and do urban gardening.  She grew up on a farm in Pennsylvania where she and her family lived off the land.  She learned mushroom foraging from an early age but once she moved to the West Coast, she had to relearn the edibles.

Michele currently resides in Oakland, CA. An urban homesteader, her interests include kenyan top bar beekeeping, keeping chickens, rain harvesting and other sustainable living practices. She's enthusiastic about vegetable and fruit gardening, foraging wild edibles, fishing, composting, pickling, fermentation, infusions, etc. She runs her car on 100% waste veggie oil from a DIY home fueling station.
